In the old days – pre internet I mean – if you wanted to raise your profile the avenues available to you were print and broadcast media. Taking out an ad in Yellow Pages or your Thomson Local didn’t quite cut it, and still doesn’t. And let’s be honest, these days who actually looks for expert services in this way?

One of the words I have adopted and found myself using daily with people is “anchor”. Some time a go I was seeking an anchor to provide myself with stability in the rough waters that life can throw up in front of us. I found that my anchor points were my knowledge and my community of friends that I had built up through my social networking.

On the 10th March I launched my Manifesto for bridging the skills gap that exists in the UK toward ‘social’ business and the Digital world that is now heavily upon each of us.

The market is awash with advice from Social Media Guru’s. I remember the 1980’s when the PC was becoming available to the masses and I was told ‘where there is mystery there is margin.’ Beware, advice is often given as facts, but it is always ‘opinion.’

The jury is still out for many people about the benefits of using social media and whilst others’ recognise the value of it, they still struggle to integrate it within the business and use it for marketing and connectivity to customers.
